Elected Positions:  County Commissioners (one per each of three commission districts), Clerk, Treasurer, Assessor, Coroner, Sheriff,  Prosecuting Attorney.  Although Commissioners are elected by voters county-wide, they must reside within the following precincts.

In 2010 voters will elect commissioners for districts 2 and 3.

Term of office:  Two years except for County Commissioners.  District 2 commissioner elected in 2010 will serve a 4-year term and district 3, a 2-year one.  Terms are staggered so two commissioners are elected every general election.  (A candidate has come forward to run for the District 2 seat now held by Kathy Alder.  The District 3 seat is currently held by David Ferdinand.)

Election scheduling:  Primary on 4th Tuesday of May; General on 1st Tuesday after 1st Monday in November.  Pre-registration for voters closes on April 30 and Oct. 8; after that date, voters may register and vote at the same time at the Canyon County Elections office (1102 E Chicago, Caldwell) from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays or at their polling places on Election Day.  For registration and absentee ballot forms and addresses of precinct polling places visit

Filing dates:  Monday, March 8, to Friday, March 19, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the County Elections and Passports Office, 1102 E. Chicago. Write-in candidates must file a declaration of intent by May 11(primary) and October 19 (general). 

Filing requirements:  Declaration of candidacy with 5 signatures (or $40). Candidates must be U.S. citizens, 21 years of age or older, who have resided in the Canyon County for one year prior to the general election.  Candidates for commissioner must have lived in their commission district for 90 days prior to the primary election.

Financial reports:  Idaho Sunshine Law requires that candidates certify the name of their treasurer before accepting any donations or making any expenditure.  Financial reports are filed numerous times through the year.  For forms and a calendar visit
